Seleção Samba in Sinatra Sanctuary

August 10, 2010

Hoboken, New Jersey, birthplace of the legendary Frank Sinatra, has been home to the Brazilian national soccer team since last weekend.

The five time World Champs are preparing to face the USA in their first match since their quarter-final exit in the 2010 FIFA World Cup last July. Sure it’s just a friendly, warm-up match. Sure it is, essentially, “pointless”…but I am indeed insanely excited to see how Mano Menezes’s team will perform – especially after the announcement that he’ll be using a 4-3-3 formation!! YES, 3 strikers! Just the way we Brazilians like it! Attacking, samba football!!!

Here are the starting dramatis personae:

Victor, Dani Alves, Thiago Silva, David Luiz and Andre Santos

Lucas, Ramires, PH Ganso

Robinho, Pato, Neymar

Mano Menezes used the same formation last year, when he won both the Brazilian Cup and the Sao Paulo State Championship with club Corinthians, using Dentinho, Jorge Henrique and the legendary Ronaldo in the forward line!

Here’s hoping he’ll be successful this Tuesday once again!

Chin chin Mano! Let us hope your side reflects what we Brazilians are all about: risk and flair!
